We would like to correct information that appeared in the September-October edition of Dis-Chem Living Fit magazine.
In the “Making sense of macros’ feature on pages 60-64, two errors occurred during the production process which resulted in inaccurate information appearing in the article, namely.
- A typical carb-protein-fat ratio for a ketogenic diet should be 5:15:80 and not as it appeared in the article on page 64 as 80:15:5.
- The line: “Athletes or highly active individuals: 5-10g of carbs/kg/day “ should not have appeared under THE RECOMMENDED DAILY INTAKE block for fats on page 64. It was duplicated in error.
To clarify, the recommended daily fat intake is:
0.5-1.5g of fat/kg/day for non-active, health-conscious individuals who aim to follow a balanced diet (this can vary greatly depending on your specific macronutrient ratios and be as high as 9g/kg/day for those following the Banting diet, for example.)
We apologise for our errors and for any confusion they may have caused. Please do not hesitate to contact the editorial team for further clarification or queries.
