In response to the COVID-19 pandemic in South Africa, event organisers Stillwater Sports have announced that the 2020 Savanna Origin of Trails MTB Experience has moved to Autumn 2021.

SA’s MTB ‘Party of the Year’ will now take place from 24-25 April 2021. Entries opened on Tuesday, 20 October 2020.

Race options include the full and half marathons, covering roughly 85km and 49km over the two-day event, respectively.

New race village venue

“In addition to the new date, the Savanna Origin of Trails MTB Experience will also welcome the Stellenbosch High School as its new Race Village. Both stages will start and finish at the school,” says Stillwater Sports MD, Michael Meyer.

“Our route designers have been working around the clock to identify the most exciting and scenic routes on offer,” continues Meyer.

Entrants can look forward to new additions that are guaranteed to get the heart-rate pumping, while golden oldies such as G-Spot and Bartinney’s Skyfall will still feature.

The lighter side of MTB

“We’re excited to host the event in autumn, the milder weather conditions and spectacular autumn colours are sure to add to the experience,” concludes Meyer.

“Unapologetically bold, just like Savanna, the event highlights the fun side of mountain biking – no pressure, only exciting routes and magnificent views,” says Kavir Gangiah, Media, Sponsorship and Events Manager Distell Southern Africa.

“It’s a party from start to finish. We look forward to once again being part of the action and cannot wait to refresh riders with ice-cold Savannas both on the route and at the finish.”
