Event organiser, Stillwater Sports, has announced the routes of the 11th edition of the Thirsti AfricanX Trailrun, which takes place at the Houw Hoek Hotel, in the Western Cape, over the weekend of 26 – 28 March 2021.
South Africa’s premier three-day stage trail run, will see teams of two trail running enthusiasts (male/female/mixed) battling it out on routes that vary in distances each day.
Each stage will feature a different route that is guaranteed to keep things exciting while leaving runners in awe.
Starting at the picturesque Paul Cluver Amphitheatre, stage 1 highlights sections of the stunning estate trails before heading back towards Houw Hoek, traversing a number of private farms in the process.
With sweeping single tracks that are accompanied by spectacular views, runners will love this stage.
Stage 2 will see runners lining up at the picturesque Wildekrans Wine Estate before finishing at the Houw Hoek Hotel.
The route includes sections that go through:
- Wildekrans Wine Estate
- Botriver Farm
- Beaumont Wine Estate
- Kat Pas
Stage 2 is the ‘Queen Stage’ with the longest distance, most climbing and most technical trails. The first 18km on Wildekrans is a real treat and a perfect way to get warmed up. After Beaumont Wine Estate things will start to get interesting as runners climb up to the iconic hiking trail that undulates above Bot River Farm towards the Houw Hoek Hotel on a technical trail that crosses rivers and provides some of the best views of the weekend.
The third and final stage will incorporate the event’s traditional ‘Dress Up Day’, which previously happened on day 2.
Starting at the Houw Hoek Farm Stall, the stage 3 route will boast sections of the magnificent Lebanon Trails, which are new to AfricanX, before going through a culvert under the N2 before finishing at Houw Hoek.
There is no specific theme for the dress-up day. Instead, runners are encouraged to let their creativity reign.
