Kicking off the 2019 XTERRA racing calendar at the Elgin Grabouw Country Club on 23 and 24 February 2019, the XTERRA Grabouw will treat off-road adventure seekers to an exciting new route.
The largest XTERRA in the world, the XTERRA Grabouw Full features a 1.5km swim, a roughly 27km long MTB leg and a 12.4km trail run.
The event organisers have implemented a number of changes to keep things fresh and exciting on race day. XTERRA Full entrants can expect a brand new MTB and trail run experience.
MTB route upgrade
The MTB route will follow the Northern trails, which are new to XTERRA, for the first 12km before heading back towards single track heaven. The first single track to be encountered will be the famous Rock Garden, followed by one hill before the single track fun continues until the finish line.
Easier trail run
An easier trail run route will take entrants around the dam and will also feature spectacular single track. The iconic beach run to the finish will still close off the race.
Water levels rise
The good news is that the water level of the Eikenhof Dam is higher than in 2018. This means that the swim exit will go back to where it was in 2017, shortening the run to transition. ”
The XTERRA Grabouw Full race will also serve as a selection event for the 2019 ITU Cross Tri World Championships in Pontevedra, Spain. To be considered for the SA team, athletes must be fully licensed with TSA before race day. For further information, visit www.triathlonsa.co.za, or www.stillwatersports.com to enter the event.
